efulfilment and mail order
Freeman Grattan Holdings are the company behind many of the UK's most well known mail order brands. These include Swimwear365, BonPrix, Freemans & WITT International. Freeman Grattan Holding's was purchased by the Otto Group in 1999, a giant in multi-channel retail operating across more than 20 countries.
In January 2011, Doug Smith was charged with heading up Freeman Grattan Holding's new third party logistics division dedicated to efulfilment. Their mail order warehouse uses an older legacy warehouse system and it was unsuitable for this new venture. What they were looking for was a warehouse management system that was suited to efulfilment, quick to deploy and able to grow with the division over time. Was there a warehouse management system that could suit their efulfilment needs?
Is there a mobile solution for efulfilment warehouses?
Before Freeman Grattan decided to use PeopleVox's warehouse management system for their efulfilment, they had found it difficult to find a system that would be cost effective to get started with just a few pickers that also had the mobile computing technology they were used to in their mail order warehouse. Other efulfilment warehouse systems for 3PL's were based on paper pick sheets and manual data entry for stock adjustments. This step backwards in time wasn't something Doug Smith was prepared to do.
With FGH's warehouse team geared up for a fully mobile warehouse system Doug Smith ran into Peoplevox's Oliver Rhodes at Internet Retailing Expo, March 2011. Following their initial discussions Doug was able to learn a lot more about Peoplevox's warehouse management system and assessed its suitablility for his new 3PL efulfilment division. Doug quickly realised that Peoplevox had just the mobile solution they were looking for to grow with their business.
Peoplevox made it possible for Freeman Grattan Holdings to go mobile from day 1
After getting started with the Peoplevox WMS, FGH was able to quickly go to work barcode scanning in new stock and registering where it was put-away to. Their locations were already barcode labelled and these were easy to import via the Peoplevox CSV import tool. Through Peoplevox's Receive and Removals software they were able to manage their entire process from goods in through to despatch using the mobile device. This enabled them to get a full audit trail of stock movements which meant they could report back to customers with activity reports showing 100% accuracy and 100% stock visibility.
